This post was initially drafted back in 2016 following the birth of my first daughter. There is no strong reason for its delay, but with the birth of our second daughter last week, it felt right to rekindle the post.
Becoming a dad is something I am extremely proud to have experienced, and whilst I feel I have learnt and experienced so much since the arrival of my first daughter, there is still so much more to experience and learn. Through the Playing Dad series, I am hoping to share those moments with the aim to help someone else navigate their way into and through parenthood. Welcoming baby number two into the world has presented a new perspective on some aspects of my original draft. It was tailored very much towards first time dads, focusing on that leap of faith into an unknown you can never truly prepare for. Once you have had one child, a lot of the realities are no longer unknown and you take on a different level of confidence.

Paradise Wildlife Park is an animal park located in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire. It is right on our doorstep, so it is no surprise that I have visited this attraction multiple times both as a child and a parent. The zoo has undergone a major transformation in my lifetime transforming from the worst zoo in Britain to one of much acclaim. As with many attractions, Paradise Wildlife Park was put under significant strain when forced to close its gates in response to COVID-19. They eventually opened again in late June. Eager to show our support for a local attraction much loved by my family, we immediately booked our tickets to visit once again.

This is a first for my blog. The Playing Dad series meets The Edison Project. This post is once again a little later than it should be, but the concept only came to me when writing my previous post on creating tie-dye attire with my daughter.

Create a tie-dye piece of attire. Only god knows where the desire to add this project to the list came from. It was added long before I had children, so I cannot even use that excuse. However, it was during a brainstorm for ideas to keep my daughter entertained during lockdown when everything aligned.

It was highlighted a few years back that my list was lacking in acts of charity and conquering of phobias. Whilst these were both fair points, I was quicker to address one than the other. The simplest way for me to do this was to identify experiences that could incorporate a charitable element. The strongest candidate from my list was to ‘Shave my hair off’, but ironically, I have made more progress in growing my hair, which is also on my project list. This was a conscious decision.

The completion of this particular item feels a bit of a cheat, and there is some hesitancy in me marking it off the list and writing it up on my blog. This sensation is not because of the place I visited, but more so that I spent less than 24-hours there and explored more of the airport than any other part of this European capital. This is also frustrating for the fact that I know very little about the capital city in question even after this visit.
