Long Hair, Don’t Care
It was highlighted a few years back that my list was lacking in acts of charity and conquering of phobias. Whilst these were both fair points, I was quicker to address one than the other. The simplest way for me to do this was to identify experiences that could incorporate a charitable element. The strongest candidate from my list was to ‘Shave my hair off’, but ironically, I have made more progress in growing my hair, which is also on my project list. This was a conscious decision.
Two years ago in February, I made the decision to start growing my hair with the aim to donate it to the Little Princess Trust. For those unaware, the Little Princess Trust provides free hair wigs to children and young people, up to 24 years, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions. The minimum length they require is 7 inches and so this was my initial target. I say initial, as I am now approaching 15 inches. This is an additional positive as they have a shortage of hair in excess of 12 inches. I have included a number of pictures of my hair growth, and I would love to say I skipped the in between stage, but I would be lying.
Although my hair is now of sufficient length and quality to donate, I would also like to raise some money for the charity in the process. If I hit a donation target of £1,000, then I will also shave my hair completely off. Those donating in excess of £10.00 will also be entered into a raffle to be the one cutting my hair. Given the current restrictions around Covid-19, and the fact I am expecting my second child, this is likely to take place in the final quarter of 2020. I will obviously continue to grow my hair until the date is confirmed, and I hope you all take the time to donate on my JustGiving page – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/nicholas-moon.
Having long hair was not something I ever aspired to have, and despite my fondness of Samurai traditions, I have been known to share my dislike of topknots and man buns. Rather hypocritical of me, I have grown fond of my own man bun. Such is my fondness, I will be sad to see it cut and I will definitely look to grow it back.
I will sign off here with one final point. Please visit the Little Princess Trust at www.littleprincesses.org.uk to find out how you can help give young people back what cancer takes away.
