Garden in process of being mowed

Many of the experiences I have completed as part of The Edison Project may feel pretty mundane. I can certainly understand that viewpoint, but I guess that is what makes the project uniquely personal. Mowing a lawn is certainly one of those experiences that could be described as mundane, however it is one I have not been in a position to accomplish until this point.

I was very fortunate to grow up with a large garden, a garden that transformed into the Maracana as I channeled my inner Ronaldo (the original one) scoring goals left, right and centre. Whilst the turf was not immaculate due to my footballing exploits, it was in pretty good shape. This was due to the fact my parents had a preference towards professionals maintaining the lawn on a weekly basis.

Now in my mid-thirties and having recently purchased my own property with a garden (There Is No Place Like Home), I was one step closer to completing this experience to mow a lawn. The property we had purchased had a reasonably sized lawn, but it was very overgrown and needed significant maintenance. The prospect of this task was one that got me excited. After a few weeks, I eventually purchased a cheap trimmer and a cheap electric lawn mower that did an excellent job of clearing up the garden. The only negative was the lawn mower losing a wheel within five minutes of use. This required a fairly simple fix, but not ideal given it was brand new. The patterns I cut into the lawn were and remain to this day pretty basic. I would love to explore this skill further once the garden is a lot more healthier. Although mundane to some, the chore of mowing the lawn is one I have come to enjoy. I would even go as far as to say it is therapeutic.

Since moving into our property, I have spent a lot of time working in our garden. It is something I really enjoy, and it is a space I would love to be challenged in more. I have included a before and after photo below to demonstrate the progress that has been made. It is one I am particularly proud of. On the topic of being challenged in the garden, if you have any good ideas for experiences or challenges that I could try in the garden, then feel free to let me know in the comments below.

Paradise Wildlife Park [Review]

Paradise Wildlife Park is an animal park located in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire. It is right on our doorstep, so it is no surprise that I have visited this attraction multiple times both as a child and a parent. The zoo has undergone a major transformation in my lifetime transforming from the worst zoo in Britain to one of much acclaim. As with many attractions, Paradise Wildlife Park was put under significant strain when forced to close its gates in response to COVID-19. They eventually opened again in late June. Eager to show our support for a local attraction much loved by my family, we immediately booked our tickets to visit once again.

The Best Thing You Can Spend On Your Children Is Time

This is a first for my blog. The Playing Dad series meets The Edison Project. This post is once again a little later than it should be, but the concept only came to me when writing my previous post on creating tie-dye attire with my daughter.

Be The Tie-Dye Sheep Of The Family

Create a tie-dye piece of attire. Only god knows where the desire to add this project to the list came from. It was added long before I had children, so I cannot even use that excuse. However, it was during a brainstorm for ideas to keep my daughter entertained during lockdown when everything aligned.

I want to hear from everyone who takes the time to visit my blog.
