A Little Fish In A Big Pond Has Plenty Of Room To Swim

A shark walkway

One method I use for inspiration on projects to add to The Edison Project is to think about all the places that I have said I would like to visit, but that I have not got around to. With this train of thought it is very easy to get tied down on those far-flung destinations you would like to travel to without giving thought for those closer to home. For me, the Sea Life London Aquarium falls into that latter category.
As a child I have fond memories of visiting the Sea Life Centre in Hunstanton, and so I have always been intrigued by what the Sea Life London Aquarium had to offer since it opened in 1997. It took me 21 years before I eventually made this a reality.

The impetus to me completing this project was thanks to my colleagues who bought me vouchers to visit the Sea Life London Aquarium following an internal move at work. This was an amazing gift as it was something I had always wanted to do, and it was an experience I could share with my family.

The Sea Life London Aquarium is not the biggest attraction, but it is a great way to escape the hustle and bustle right in the center of London. The walkways and exhibits are entwined throughout bringing you closer to the aquatic life on display. Some of our favourites were the large sharks, the colourfully displayed jellyfish and the penguins. It was also impressive to see the size of the tanks with their ornate features such as the large East Islands Heads.
My daughter was two at the time and potentially too young to take everything in. However, it was the first trip to an attraction of this type where she seemed really engaged. She was trying to vocally interact and point at the fish as they swam past. Whilst I appreciate such experiences help children develop, the cost to visit this attraction is not friendly on the wallet.

One thing I did find out following the trip that will definitely be added to The Edison Project in the future is that the Sea Life London Aquarium offers VIP Experiences including a 15 minute shark cage experience.

I will tie-up this post by recommending you ask yourself the question – What experiences on my doorstep have I not visited?

Paradise Wildlife Park [Review]

Paradise Wildlife Park is an animal park located in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire. It is right on our doorstep, so it is no surprise that I have visited this attraction multiple times both as a child and a parent. The zoo has undergone a major transformation in my lifetime transforming from the worst zoo in Britain to one of much acclaim. As with many attractions, Paradise Wildlife Park was put under significant strain when forced to close its gates in response to COVID-19. They eventually opened again in late June. Eager to show our support for a local attraction much loved by my family, we immediately booked our tickets to visit once again.

The Best Thing You Can Spend On Your Children Is Time

This is a first for my blog. The Playing Dad series meets The Edison Project. This post is once again a little later than it should be, but the concept only came to me when writing my previous post on creating tie-dye attire with my daughter.

Be The Tie-Dye Sheep Of The Family

Create a tie-dye piece of attire. Only god knows where the desire to add this project to the list came from. It was added long before I had children, so I cannot even use that excuse. However, it was during a brainstorm for ideas to keep my daughter entertained during lockdown when everything aligned.
