Did you know the O2 has a 365m diameter, and a height of 52m? It is true. It also has twelve masts supporting the canopy that represent each month of the year.

Why am I telling you this? I have no idea. The task was simply to climb the bloody thing. And so, last Friday we ventured to North Greenwich tickets in hand, and scaled the O2, previously the Millennium Dome.

Again, there was some anxiety in myself and my girlfriend…both scared of heights. In any case, we both made it to the top and back down again with no problems whatsoever.

The duration of the experience was 90 minutes and involved a harnessed climb up to a viewing platform at the peak, and then another harnessed climb down the other side. The physical demands of the climb were not too taxing, with only a few metres of steep 30° inclines/declines to contend with.

Whilst I am glad we both did this, and it was an amazing item to tick off, I was a little upset that the view of central London is blocked by the domineering presence of Canary Wharf. There is still a lot to see, but the view of The Shard, The City and The Olympic Park are all obscured.

If you want to add this item to your list then tickets are normally around £15 per adult, but keep an eye out for discounts on Groupon and other offer sites.
