Meet Edi and Albert, our new pet goldfish in their temple inspired fish tank. This was the first item on my list to be completed in 2015. Named after the scientists Thomas Edison (anyone would think I am obsessed with him) and Albert Einstein, we now have not one, but two pets to take responsibility for. I am not sure what made us decide to name them after scientists, but it is quite ironic that both scientists were polar opposites when it came to animal rights. Thomas Edison tortured animals to discredit AC power, and Albert Einstein was a strict vegetarian who believed in compassion for all living organisms.

My reasoning for wanting to own a pet was primarily due to the fact I do not recall owning one at any point previously in my life. My sister had a hamster, and my mum would occasionally have fish, it is quite possible a few were mine, but I certainly was not the one cleaning and feeding them regularly.
Purchased from our local Pets At Home store having spent hours researching online, the fish now reside in a temple inspired tank sat atop our kitchen work top. I am still not sure what was more fun, acquiring the fish, or choosing the theme for the tank.

That is the first item for 2015. The next one should follow shortly as me and my girlfriend head off to Iceland. I will leave you with my favourite goldfish joke (it is a terrible dad joke…and no, I am not a dad. Just a fan of bad jokes).

A man walks into a fishmongers with a goldfish under his arm.
He asks the fishmonger, “Do you sell fish cakes?”
The fishmonger replies, “No”.
The man says, “That is a shame. It is his birthday today.
