Being present for Iceland’s worst storm this winter was not what we had planned. The idea was to visit Iceland to go see the northern lights, and the extreme landscape the country has to offer. Instead we found ourselves confined to our hotel for three out of the five days of our trip.

On one of the days we got out, we did the free tour of Reykjavik (http://freewalkingtour.is/) before tasting Hakarl (rotten shark meat and often at the top of the worst tasting food lists in the world) and hot dogs from Baejarins Beztu Pylsur (rated as one of the best tasting hot dogs in the world). The second day we spent taking in the sights of the Golden Circle. Despite the limitations bought on by the weather, it was still an amazing trip that I would highly recommend.

Whilst I did not get to tick off ‘#19 – Experience the Northern Lights’, I did make progress on ‘#85 – Visit at least one European capital city – aim to visit all of them’ – Reykjavik being the capital of Iceland.

So the current status is:

Amsterdam, The Hague, Andorra La Vella, Athens, Belgrade, Berlin, Bern, Bratislava, Brussels, BucharestBudapest, Chisinau, Copenhagen, Dublin, Helsinki, Kiev, Lisbon, Ljublijana, London, Luxembourg, Madrid, Minsk, Monaco, Moscow, Nicosia, Nuuk, Oslo, Paris, Podgorica, PragueReykjavikRiga, Rome, San Marino, Sarajevo, Skopje, Sodia, Stockholm, Tallin, Tirana, Vaduz, Valletta, Vatican City, Vienna, Vilnius, Warsaw, and Zagreb

This will be a tough challenge, but I am making steady progress. The item #85 was actually tougher last year as it simply read ‘visit every European capital city’. The amendment to visit one with the aim to visit all made this more realistic and manageable.

If you happen to be based in any of these cities and fancy putting me up on your sofa, then get in touch.
