Visiting the prehistoric monument of Stonehenge can finally be ticked off the list. This is one I have been meaning to complete for many years. I missed out on visiting with school, and I have only had the pleasure of a quick drive-by viewing ever since. With a day off work, I couldn’t think of anything better to do.

My last post was on the 29th March, over a month ago. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been working away at my 2014 list. The reality of it is. I have had to reconsider my priorities in tackling some of the larger tasks currently on the list. Hopefully I will be writing some of these up in the coming months.

In either case, visiting Stonehenge was the next action ticked off my list. The prehistoric monument has been something I have wanted to visit for many years. At primary school I was looking forward to visiting Stonehenge in Year 5, however my year group was the first generation to not make this trip with the school. To make matters worse, the year group below made the trip the following year.

A few years later and I was driving to a football tournament in Bath. All of a sudden, Stonehenge came into view as I cleared the brow of a hill. I didn’t have time to stop, so my view was restricted to the driver side window as we made our way past. With a number of close encounters, I decided to add ‘Visit Stonehenge’ at number 46.

Having extended my bank holiday weekend by booking the Thursday off, me and my girlfriend grabbed my car keys and set off on a road trip to Wiltshire. The journey didn’t take long and we were among the tourists a few minutes after opening. Although I was impressed by the sheer size of the stones, the awe of the experience lasted a matter of minutes before I was thinking about our journey home.

For anyone else looking to visit Stonehenge, it costs £14.50 and a short ride to access. Although the awe factor wore off quick for me, it is something I still recommend to people, however, do not make it the sole purpose of your journey.
